Subject: BC General Local Elections – Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018
This memo is to remind you of the university’s obligations to employees who are scheduled to work on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, the date of the 2018 BC general local (municipal) elections.
Voting in the general local election will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Unlike?in provincial and federal elections, there is no statutory obligation for employers to provide employees with time off from work to vote in general local elections. UBC recommends that an employee who is scheduled to work on Oct. 20 consider advance or mail ballot voting, if their scheduled work hours on Oct. 20 will not allow them enough time to vote in the general polls.
