Subject: Implementation of Teaching Assistant Classifications
We have two new CUPE 2278 Teaching Assistant classifications as announced in our HR Memo of Nov. 15, 2016.
To reflect these new classifications, two new job codes have been created.
- 400105: Senior Teaching Asst, effective Sept. 1, 2016.
- 400106: Undergrad Teaching Asst 1, effective Jan. 1, 2017.
- Existing job code 400103 will be renamed from “Undergrad Teaching Asst” to “Undergrad Teaching Asst 2” effective. Jan 1, 2017.
It is estimated that these changes will affect 700+ employees effective Jan. 1, 2017.
Senior Teaching Assistants, retroactive adjustments to Sept. 1, 2016
Departments that have already made arrangements with affected GTAs do not need to re-submit their appointments to retroactively adjust the classification. You can use the new classification going forward.
Departments that have not made this arrangement with affected GTA must submit a Job Change ePAF using the new classification (Job code 400105) in order to retroactively update the classification and salary for the affected GTAs.
It is not required to have a position number created for these appointments; however, departments that use Position Management System to budget for Teaching Assistant appointments will need to create a new position(s) for the new classifications.
Departments can start submitting these appointments effective immediately.
