Subject:?British Columbia Teachers Federation Strike Vote (BCTF)
On May 21, 2014, we issued a memo regarding rotating job action by the BCTF at public K-12 schools around the province (/bcc/memos/british-columbia-teachers-federation-strike-bctf-may-21-2014/).
The BCTF plans to hold a strike vote today and tomorrow (June 9 & 10, 2014) to decide whether to hold a full strike before the end of the school year. The results of that vote should be released publicly later this week.
In the event of increased job action, up to and including a full strike by members of the BCTF, or further lock out actions by the BC government, we expect that many parents/guardians will continue to struggle to find alternate care for their children. Where alternate care can’t be found or only partially found, it is expected that staff may be seeking vacation on short notice or flexibility in their current schedule.
We ask that managers continue to be as flexible as possible, within their operational requirements, to help manage through this job action.
